A VISION FOR NEW ROSS 2022 AND BEYOND

We have put together just some of the plans, developments and concepts that are currently in the works.

New Ross Quay Front Development

New Ross has undergone major construction work over the last decade. The results of which is a stunning quay front and flood defence, finished to the highest standard. We have put together just some of the plans, developments and concepts that are currently in the works.

Removal of oil tanks adjacent to the Dunbrody Visitor Centre

The removal of the oil tanks on the quay is due to commence when ownership of New Ross port is finalised. Freeing up space for new infrastructure or a communal area and regenerate the appearance of the Quay front.

Development of Southeast Greenway and restoration of the Red bridge and a new service of a Greenway Ferry

The 24.3km Greenway will be constructed along the disused railway line, passing through counties Waterford, Kilkenny, and Wexford. The route links the town of New Ross to Waterford via Abbeylands and Ferrybank, crossing over the River Barrow and along the scenic countryside of South Kilkenny, which will offer an environmentally friendly transport option for commuters to New Ross, a fantastic recreational amenity for visitors, local walkers and cyclists.

New Ross will hold some key features to this Greenway. With the restoration of the old red bridge and a railway tunnel. A bike Ferry will also be in operation up and down the barrow with a hop on, hop off at different docking points. This will allow you to choose different difficulty levels while undertaking the Greenway by bike or foot.

This Project will be a major boost to tourism in New Ross. With the long term plan of linking up with a Wexford Greenway so eventually, you could travel from Rosslare via New ross on to the Waterford Greenway.

A Quay Front Museum.

Destined for the old Murphy’s building, a welcome addition in the fight against dereliction. Encouraging tourists to make there way across the town and explore New Ross that little bit more. The museum will be full of the rich history of this medieval town.

Marquee to replace the Harbour Office covering the jetty creating an amphitheater in the heart of the town

New plans for an amphitheatre in the heart of the town…..
A place for festivals, outdoor markets and community events throughout the year. Still in the early stages of planning but will bring life to the centre of town. A prime location which can utilise car parks on either side for crowd control.

The location would also encourage the crowd to flow up through the main streets of the town while attending events, and cut the costs of planning for future events by having a permanent infrastructure in already in place to cater for events.

Re-opening of The Galley River Cruiser

The ever popular Galley River Cruise has long been a firm favourite for visitors and locals alike. It is part of the New Ross quay front since the 1970s. Running cruises every April to September for over 40 years. It stopped due to major refit works required on the vessel in 2017.

In partnership with Wexford Local Development through leader funding. The Galley is now in the safe hands of the New Ross Boatyard. Due to set sale summer of 2020, we can’t wait to go for lunch cruising up the barrow while taking in the beautiful sites.
