THE BEST BEACHES TO VISIT IN NEW ROSS
We have some of the best in the country, if not the world. Beaches in Wexford, but particularly here in New Ross, they are well-known for their Instagram worthy beauty, as well as their suitability for a variety of water sports, including surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, kayaking and many more. Of all the things to do in New Ross a visit to the beach is a must.
Carnivan Bay
With picturesque views that will take your breath away, you won’t find a more visual appealing beach than Carnivan Bay, stunning sand and sea, you can’t help but fall in love with these stunning surroundings. You will understand why this destination proves so popular with artists & photographers, its a definite Instagram must.
Duncannon Beach
The mile long beach offers heritage and history to your trip to the beach. The sand and sea have a softness which is striking contrast to raw architecture of the fort located just behind. If you are looking for more action, you can’t get more of an adrenaline rush than to experience water sports. Kayaking and Surfing are just some of the activities which take place along this stunning coastal spot. (It is also part of the wheelchair scheme. The initiative, which provides access to Wexford’s renowned beaches for people with disabilities and mobility issues, The wheelchair’s specially designed wheels allow it to travel across the sandy beaches with ease.) You can also drive right onto the beach with parking on the beach allowed.
Dollar Bay
Dollar Bay is a small beach that you will pass en route to the Hook Lighthouse. Located just next to another beautiful slightly larger beach of Booley Bay. Surrounded by high rocky cliffs and green fields make this a really picturesque setting. The bright blue sea and golden sand would make you think you are on a tropical Island. The name Dollar Bay comes from the local legend of an alleged hidden treasure still on the beach to this day. So you could get more than just golden sand while visiting this beautiful location of Dollar Bay.
Booley Bay
Booley Bay is another small beach that you will pass on route to the Hook Lighthouse. The secluded beach has good space for Parking on the Road down to the Beach. Booley Bay Beach was also awarded the Green Coast Awards 2019 and it’s easy to see why. The vibrant green fields surrounding the beach make for a beautiful view.
Baginbun Beach
Where the Norman ships ‘La Bague’ and ‘La Bonne’ landed. Well known historical beach ‘where Ireland was lost and won’. This refers to the Normans’ victory over the local forces who fought them here on their arrival. The bay’s relatively high and protective headland provides good shelter, making it a hotspot for sun seeking tourists rather than marauding Norman warriors.
There are no beaches in New Ross! Carnivan Bay, Dollar Bay and Booley Bay are on the Hook Peninsula nearer to Fethard-on-sea (of which there is no mention) and Duncannon beach is in Duncannon – all about 20 miles and 30 minutes away if you’re observing the speed limits! All a bit misleading really.
Kate Cooper having lived in New Ross for more years than I care to remember you will find we have plenty of beaches in New Ross even more than above.
