There will be a virtual switch on the lights on Saturday 21st November, which will be broadcast live on Facebook and on the Christmas New Ross 2020 website.
A spokesperson for Wexford County Council said “The ceremony will be led by the Cathaoirleach of New Ross Municipal District, Cllr Michael Whelan, who will be assisted by Willie Fitzharris, President of County Wexford Chamber Board and of course Santy himself!
“The switching on of the Christmas lights will herald the start of a five week lead up to Christmas and it is hoped that the restrictions will ease and allow locals and visitors to visit our lovely town safely. Christmas music will be piped on the streets and on the Quay to add to the festivities.
It will be a different Christmas but we are hoping and expecting a successful Christmas campaign and again we would encourage everyone to Shop local during the festive season.”
A new feature this year will be Christmas Scenes which will be in the courtyard of St Michael’s Theatre, across from the Tholsel and at the old bridge at the end of Bridge St. These will provide photo opportunities for Christmas family photos and will also include an opportunity to win selection boxes for those who visit the scenes.
