It’s a beautiful summer’s morning in town, you’ve got no work. Sounds just about perfect, Now what ? Here are just a few ingredients to throw into the mix of how to spend the perfect sunshine day in New Ross Town all within a stones throw of each other…

 

Breakfast – The Cracked Teapot

‪A great place to start your day might be having a leisurely breakfast at The Cracked Teapot on Quay Street winner of best “Free From” Leinster at the Irish Restaurant Awards 2019 . Sumptuous choices like smashed avocado, feta on toasted sourdough bread, and obviously no breakfast menu would be complete without a full Irish.

Mid morning  – Tour of the Dunbrody Famine Ship

Experience first hand an interesting & informative tour,  see the conditions that these poor people had to endure & survive in whilst travelling between 1845 and 1851 the Dunbrody carried thousands of emigrants to North America. A harrowing experience is brought to life by the actors playing out and relaying the story.

Lunching Out  – The Amphitheatre or Pearse Park

If the sun is out, you could buy yourself a picnic lunch and head to the Amphitheatre (Library Park) or Pearse Park (Town Park) and chill out for a while. The Amphitheatre is a short walk up Mary St from The Tholsel, a little oasis of beautiful neat lawns with ample seating and resting areas (interesting fact… all the trees in the park were chosen to reflect their place in Irish Mythology.) Conversely, Pearse Park is in the heart of Quayside New Ross, surrounded by benches, picnic area and fantastic scenery. Both locations benefit from being located close to carparks for locals and visitors alike.

Fill your history boots with any number of tours around the town’s heritage sites and attractions. Enjoy the old architecture of St Marys Church, The Three Bullet Gate and many other sites, take a guided tour with the exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly Myles.

If you still can’t get enough of that sunshine, head to Laforge in Kennedy boutique, The upstairs has a terrace overlooking the River Barrow, run by Gilles and Anna Laforge, this restaurant offers an extensive menu to cater for even the fussiest of palets, or just light bites to nibble on and share.
