Best day trips from New Ross

What happens when we go away ? We appreciate everything that little bit more! While New Ross is a wonderful, historic and fascinating town, there’s a lot more to Ireland than just our town. Luckily for you, you can explore pretty much anywhere in Ireland and be back again within a day. Even on our doorstep…. travelling outside of New Ross visitors can head 25 – 60 minutes in any direction and a digital detox will await!

Next up on our Road Trip from New Ross is our North Wexford neighbours Gorey,  a historic market town with a position on the main road between Wexford & Dublin which has made it an important regional hub for centuries. But it’s far from a dormitory town – the centre is still very much alive and the tree-lined main street has kept its market-town feel with plenty of independent businesses.

Old Bawn Beach

Old Bawn Beach is a 3km section of a long stretch of sandy coastline extending south from Cahore Point and includes part of the Cahore Polders and Dunes National Heritage Area.

The Beach has an easterly aspect overlooking the Irish Sea and is bordered on the west by a line of sand dunes. The area is essentially rural with the nearest major population centre in Gorey Town.

Oldbawn beach has been awarded the Green Coast Award for 2019.

U2 played Gorey back in 1980, as part of the lineup at the Gorey Arts Festival. At first they ruffled some feathers – including those of the local canoe club. “We were supposed to be having a meeting next door to the Theatre Hall, but it was too noisy, so we had to call it off.”

(He added: “We went in to see the band instead, and it turned out to be a great show.”)
