5. High Hill Gardens Day Time (Postcard)

Built to reflect the love story of the founders of New Ross, William Marshal and Isobel De Clare, the High Hill Gardens feature symbols of birth, love and family and include thrones to seat the royal couple and are planted with grasses, knotted planting, a variety of flowers, hedges, aromatic plants and herbs which echo the Norman history and influence in the formation of the town in the early 1200s.
Visitors can wander through the series of faceted gardens on paths that wind their way up the hill and can take a rest on the seating in the terraces and enjoy the views down through the gardens and over the river Barrow. Then take a walk further up to the 13th century St Mary’s church, built by the Marshals and part of the Norman Way and follow the trail around the church and graveyard and experience the atmosphere and discover the history of St. Mary’s.
Descending down through the gardens, you might be lucky enough to catch one of the outdoor events taking place at the event space at the bottom of the gardens before journeying down through the medieval streets of New Ross to see all it has to offer!
