About

Medi-Fit is a Functional Fitness facility that specialises in ‘Fitness for Living’ and using exercise as a preventative and treatment option for chronic illness and disease.

 

With over 25 years of experience in the health and fitness industry, Keeley Farrell (a Lecturer of Sport, Fitness and Coaching and Clinical Exercise Specialist) identified a need to use exercise as a preventative and treatment option to support active living. Keeley said “As we age, our muscle mass declines, our joints stiffen, and our cardiovascular and pulmonary capacity reduces. Exercise is key to slowing this process and in some cases, can reduce the effects of chronic illness and disease. Engagement in regular exercise, maintaining muscle mass and keeping the body functioning efficiently is key to long-term health and longevity. We use this knowledge and expertise to build exercise programmes that are suitable for everyone, regardless of age, ability or health”.

 

Supported by Lorraine Maher (Functional Fitness Manager) and Owen Lennon (Fitness Instructor & Personal Trainer), we are passionate about promoting health, wellness, and celebrating the joy of movement. Our approach to fitness is rooted in personalised care, expert guidance, and creating a warm community atmosphere. We believe in empowering our members to embrace an active lifestyle that promotes fitness for living.

 

Located in the Woodbine Business Park, classes on offer include:

 

FUN – FIT: Improve your strength, flexibility, mobility, stamina and cognitive function. These classes are designed to improve your overall fitness levels by following biomechanical movements (how the body moves) and reactive skills. Fun, warm and welcoming classes. All fitness levels are catered for in these classes.

 

ACTIVE – FIT: Active Retired Exercise Classes. These classes incorporate age-appropriate exercises to build strength, improve flexibility, balance, coordination, increase lung capacity and reactive skills. Fun, warm and welcoming classes.

 

MAMMY – FIT: Exercise classes designed to help mothers gain strength, improve cardiovascular fitness and restore muscle tone after childbirth. Babies welcome!

 

LEGEND – FIT: Over 70’s exercise classes for the legends in our community! A Falls Prevention Class designed to improve mobility, balance, coordination, strength, flexibility and cognitive function. After class, sit back and enjoy a cup of tea on us. After all, the social element of this group is just as important as the class itself!

 

HEALTH – FIT: Exercise classes specifically designed for people living with chronic illnesses. These classes will reduce the symptoms associated with chronic illness and are suitable for people living with cardiac, pulmonary, respiratory, joint and mobility issues as well as those living with the effects of chronic illnesses and treatments.

 

GOLF – FIT: Exercise and improve your golf game at the same time with our golf-specific exercise classes. By adopting the biomechanical movements of a golf swing, our GOLF-FIT exercise classes will improve strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and posture to improve your game of golf!

 

INTRO – FIT: A 4-week beginner block of exercise classes designed to reduce the anxiety of stepping into a gym for the first time. Have fun while you learn the ropes and let us introduce you to the world of Functional Fitness at Medi-Fit!

 

YOGA: Combining breathing practices, asanas, and mindfulness, this class helps to increase flexibility, strength, clarity, and balance. Seated, standing, and supine postures are utilised and often connected with breath to create a gentle flow in the practice.

 

PILATES: Mat-based Pilates Class that focuses on strength, stability, posture, breath control, and flexibility. Each class will work to balance all muscle groups’ strength and increase flexibility, with an emphasis on challenging the core muscles with each movement.

 

SEMI-PRIVATE & PRIVATE PERSONAL TRAINING: Personal training plans designed to meet your fitness/lifestyle goals at a time that suits you. Semi-Private & Private Personal Training slots are currently available.

 

Membership and Pay As You Go options are available.
