A heartening story has been silently unfolding, empowered by Cumas New Ross the School Leavers Ability Project have been doing inspiring work since 2018. This innovative initiative has been acting as a springboard for young individuals with disabilities, aged 16 to 29, to transition confidently from school to the next phase of their lives. Against the backdrop of an organisation steeped in unity and compassion, Cumas has been building bridges of hope and resilience for these young students. The initiative’s aim, to help individuals develop a robust sense of self-assuredness, independence, and the skills required to navigate life after school, stands as a testament to their unwavering commitment.
Dayna Bradley, the committed team leader, leads the small but dedicated team working with 26 mainstream schools in Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, and Carlow, liaising with a network of services, such as HSE, Tulsa, Disability, Education, and employment services, to ensure a seamless transition for their students. The project’s proactive approach, supported by funding from Pobal and the Dormant Accounts Fund, has facilitated the transition of students with diagnosed disabilities from school to PLC courses, colleges, day care services and employment.
